KOTA BARU: Some 30,000 people are expected to walk with the Kelantan Sultan in the second series of the Royal Walkathon Walk With Me today.
Joining Sultan Muhammad V Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra Sultan Ismail Petra on the 7km journey will be the Regent of Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra.
Kelantan Royal Family Al-Muhammadi Association treasurer Tengku Ibrahim Farihaddin Datuk Tengku Faisal said the event was held in conjunction with Visit Kelantan 2012 and was also aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“The idea was mooted by His Royal Highness himself,” he said at a press conference at Istana Balai Lama here on Monday.
The event, which attracted 21,111 participants last year, entered the Malaysia Book of Records for having the highest number of participants under the Royal Walkathon category.
The Sultan of Kelantan and the Regent are expected to begin their walk at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium during the event.
Tengku Ibrahim said there would be road closures from Jalan Mahmood to Jalan Hospital, Jalan Temenggong to Jalan Padang Garong and behind the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium until Jalan Bayam tomorrow.
