We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

The Plight of Zimbabwe's Starving People

For us it is a saddening sight - a magnificent bull elephant struck down in his old age.
But for the starving of Zimbabwe, it was little short of a miracle.
The carcass provided a vital source of food, and hundreds of desperate villagers in the Gonarezhou National Park descended on the dead animal within minutes of its discovery.
Using machetes, axes and knives made from tin cans they set upon the six-ton carcass, which was found deep in scrubland.

The desperate descend: Within minutes, starving villagers arrive at the carcass
Fights broke out as villagers battled to strip chunks of flesh from the animal and drag them away to feed their families.
It took just one hour and 47 minutes for the 13ft-tall elephant to be reduced to a skeleton. Every part was used for food, even the trunk and ears.
The bones of the 70-year-old animal were taken to boil for soup and within 24 hours nothing was left but a blood-stained patch of earth.
The images are undeniably shocking. But they illustrate the terrible lengths to which Zimbabweans are forced to go just to survive under Robert Mugabe.
Yesterday, the Red Cross warned the situation in the former British colony is 'critical' with 2.17million - one in four of the population - requiring urgent food aid.

Emma Kundishora, of the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, said: 'In some parts of the country, the food situation is as bad as many of our volunteers and staff have ever seen.'

Erratic rain has also damaged crops of corn. Harvests could produce just 500,000-tons this year, less than a third of the amount required to feed the nation. 
Photographer David Chancellor said: 'Just after dawn a villager spotted the carcass as he passed on a bicycle.
'It was in the middle of nowhere, but within 15 minutes hundreds of people had arrived from all directions.

Stripped: After less than two hours, only bones remain. Even these will later be taken.

The meat was taken back to homes. Some was eaten immediately but most was dried on washing lines and stored to eat later.

Dear all,
I cannot stop myself from sharing this with all of you.
Its all started when I received a call from someone claiming that he was from Maxis and he asked me to shutdown my phone for 2 hours for 3g update to take place. As I was rushing for a meeting, I did not question and shutdown my cell phone.
After 45 minutes I felt very suspicious since the caller did not even introduce his name. I quickly turned on my cell phone and I received several calls from my family members and the others were from the number that had called me earlier - 3954380.
I called my parents and I was shocked that they sounded very worried asking me whether I am safe. My parents told me that they had received a call from someone claiming that they had me with them and asking for money to let me free. The call was so real and my parents even heard 'my voice' crying out loud asking for help. My parent was at the bank waiting for next call to proceed for money transfer. I told my parents that I am safe and asked them to lodge a police report.
Right after that I received another call from the guy asking me to shutdown my cell phone for another 1 hour which I refused to do and hung up. They keep calling my cell phone until the battery had run down. I myself lodged a police report and I was informed by the officer that there were many such scams reported. MOST of the cases reported that the victim had already transferred the money! And it is impossible to get back the money.
Be careful as this kind of scam might happened to any of us!!!  Those guys are so professional and very convincing during calls. If you are asked to shut down your cell phone for updates by the service provider, call back MAXIS office and check if any such service going on!!

Who are the bumiputera?

who are the real bumiputera? is there such a thing as bumiputera?

The debate as to the status and rights of the Orang Asli was triggered after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Abdul Aziz told Parliament yesterday that the defintion of ‘bumiputera’ included the Malays, the natives of East Malaysian and also the Orang Asli of the Peninsular.

However, while federal constitution does not mention the term ‘bumiputera’, Article 153 of it says that ’special privileges’ are to be extended only to the Malays and the natives of Sabah and Sarawak.

so what does that means? that means though the orang asli may qualify as bumiputera but they are not qualified for special privileges!! but wait… bumiputera? how and where does bumiputera comes in? it was stated that bumiputera was not found in the constitution.

The term ‘bumiputera’ is absent in the constitution. It’s recognised to be a social-politcal invention of the BN government to place the Malays and other ’sons of the soil’ in a category separate from other Malaysians.

aha! just as i thought. it’s all the work of BN, particularly umno of course.

anyway one interesting  comments at malaysiakini is this one from kaykay. according to him, to classify the orang asli as bumiputera is an insult because just about anybody can be bumiputera!!  you just masuk islam, and hey presto!… you are a bumiputera. he mentioned even pakistani, bangladeshi, etc are bumipuera. here’s what kaykay has to say:

Legally speaking, it’s not possible to place the Orang Asli in the same category as the Bumiputera since that would be downgrading them. Even in Sabah & S’wak, the Natives there prefer to be known as Natives rather than Bumiputera. They know that any Tom, Dick, Prick & Harry can become a Muslim, call himself a Malay & be considered a Bumiputera. This has seen Indians, Pakistanis & Bangladeshis in Sabah being classified as Malays & Bumi. In S’wak there is an Indian Muslim Minister in the Taib Gov’t. He’s a member of PBB (Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) which is meant only for Bumis. Daud is in because he’s considered Malay & therefore a Bumi. Back to Sabah, there was the infamous case recently of Salman the Pakistani who was even born in Pakistan. Yet he managed to apply for a MyKad where he was listed as being born in Ranau. He’s considered Malay & a Bumi & no less than former Sabah Chief Minister Harris Salleh himself turned up in court to vouch for him. So, the court had to release him.

anyway, i was thinking as bumiputera means ’sons of the soil’, then since we were born in malaysia, so aren’t we all sons of the soil?? so there shouldn’t be bumiputera at all OR if there is a bumiputera, it should mean ALL of us!!

funny. this reminds me of our national anthem, the line which goes “tanah tumpahnya darahku”. all of us were born in malaysia,  all of us were sons of the soil in malaysia, all of us feel this is our ‘tanah tumpahnya darakhku’ – then why is it that only malays are classified as bumiputera? ok ok i know… all because of umno’s doing.

before i go, here’s another part of the comment in malaysiakin, which i would like to share with all because this is what i feel too but as i said being cautious not to say it out! (something in what i said that i met some orang asli face to face and what they told us straight from their mouth, which i find unprintable!).

Sadly, the only thing the Govt seriously pursued all theseyears is the systematic Islamization of the Org Aslis. Villagers are tempted with carrot of development to convert to Islam. Those villages which refuse to convert are denied development. This is governance by bad faith! There is even a policy to Islamize all OAs by a certain year! Suraus are built in villages with no Muslim population. Churches in Christian majority villages are torn down. Thousands of imams are placed in non Muslim villages so that the OAs “are not deprived of Islamic education”. Not that they wanted or asked for this in the first place! JHEOA is staffed with Malay Muslims to the exclusion of OAs themselves, and they become govt tools of religious propoganda, instead of working for advancement of this poverty stricken community. Such is the aggressive Islamization efforts of the Govt. Same story amongst the natives of rural Sabah & Sarawak. Wake up people to the truth of what is going on in this land!

KOOBFACE LURKS AROUND FACEBOOK WAITING FOR VICTIMS

Just like the life of the rich and famous often shows, fame does not bring good things all the time. In the case ofFacebook, its phenomenal popularity has made it a target of cyber criminals. Recently, a computer worm calledKoobface - a play of Facebook's name itself - has strike the social networking site once again after its first appearances in 2008.
If you never heard of this worm before, this is how it works:

1. Users on infected computer uses Facebook.
2. Koobface then deliver a fake message to the user's Facebook friends.
3. The message contains a link that points to a external website, who would prompt the visitors to download a file that claims to be an update for Adobe Flash player.
4. Once the file is downloaded and executed, the Koobface worm will then infects the said PC.
5. The cycle repeats.

Apart from self-distributing itself, the worm would also take over the PC's search engine use and reroute it to contaminated websites. It would also download a number of malwares that are able to block user's access to certain security website and leave the system's back door open for attackers to take control.

To add to the danger, Koobface also has a number of variants that are designed to attack other social networking sites as well such as MySpace, Twitter, Friendster and many more. So, for all social network addicts out there, do make sure that your security software are always up-to-date and be suspicious when presented with unknown links; even it comes from a trusted friend.

Remember, prevention is better than cure.

Demam Chikungunya (Fever)

 
1. Apa itu Penyakit Chikungunya?
Chikungunya adalah sejenis penyakit bawaan nyamuk.
Chikungunya pertama kali dikesan melalui ujian darah di Tanzania pada tahun 1953. Semenjak itu ia berlaku di negara-negara Afrika, Asia dan akhir-akhir ini ia berlaku di beberapa buah tempat di Negara Eropah. Ia endemik (selalu berlaku) di kebanyakan negara Sub Sahara Afrika, India, Asia Tenggara, Indonesia dan Filipina.
Ia bukanlah satu penyakit misteri yang tidak diketahui puncanya.

2. Bagaimana penyakit ini boleh berlaku?
Chikungunya adalah demam yang disebabkan oleh virus daripada genus Alphavirus di dalam keluarga Togaviridae.

3. Adakah ia berjangkit?
Ya. Virus Chikungunya berjangkit melalui gigitan nyamuk Aedes albopictus atau Aedes aegypti yang membawa virus tersebut. Nyamuk Aedes juga menyebarkan virus penyakit demam denggi.

4. Apakah masa pengeraman bagi Chikungunya?
Masa pengeraman bagi Chikungunya boleh menjangkau dari 3 hingga 12 hari tetapi pada kebiasaannya di antara dari 3 hingga 7 hari.

5. Apakah tanda-tanda dan gejala penyakit ini?
• Demam panas mengejut
• Sakit teruk pada sendi
• Ruam pada badan
• Sakit kepala
Seorang pesakit boleh demam dari dari 1 hingga 7 hari (kebiasaannya 5 hari).
Penyakit Chikungunya boleh disalah anggap sebagai demam denggi kerana tanda-tanda penyakit yang menyerupai demam denggi.

6. Adakah penyakit ini boleh membawa maut?
Di Malaysia, Chikungunya tidak pernah dilaporkan boleh menyebabkan pendarahan atau kematian. Tetapi, sesetengah pesakit mengalami gejala yang berpanjangan.
Pesakit yang berumur boleh mengalami kesakitan berulang pada sendi sehingga beberapa bulan atau tahun.

7. Apakah rawatan bagi penyakit ini?
Seperti penyakit-penyakit yang disebabkan oleh virus, ia tiada rawatan yang khusus. Selalunya rawatan diberi berdasarkan gejala klinikal yang dialami oleh seseorang pesakit.
Kebanyakan kes yang terjadi hanya memerlukan rawatan pesakit luar sahaja.
Tiada vaksin bagi penyakit ini.

Tips pemakanan yg blh mengurangkan/Penyembuhan (Dari Pengalaman)

a) Sup Ketam + Peria kecil – Rebuskn 1 btg serai,2 atau 3 ulas bawang putih dan merah, 1  atau 2 biji peria kecil, 1 ekor ketam. amalkn setiap hari sampai sembuh (1 minggu) bergantung pd antibody individual.

b) Amalkn jus oren / lemon setiap hari. Bayak minum air.

c) Minum 100plus+air suam,2 hingga 3 gelas / lebih  setiap hari.

8. Apakah yang perlu dilakukan jika dijangkiti penyakit?
Jika mengalami tanda-tanda dan gejala penyakit Chikungunya, orang ramai adalah dinasihatkan segera mendapatkan rawatan di klinik atau hospital terdekat.

9. Cara pencegahan penyakit Chikungunya
• Bersihkan kawasan rumah dan persekitaran supaya bebas daripada tempat-tempat pembiakan nyamuk Aedes. Ini boleh dilakukan melalui aktiviti gotong royong. Adalah terbukti tiada kes baru yang dilaporkan di kawasan-kawasan yang melakukan gotong- royong.
• Periksa rumah dan persekitaran sekurang-kurangnya seminggu sekali untuk memastikan tiada pembiakan nyamuk Aedes.
• Dapatkan rawatan dengan segera di klinik atau hospital berdekatan sekiranya mengalami tanda dan gejala penyakit.

10. Bolehkah kawasan saya dijangkiti penyakit Chikungunya?
Boleh, kerana penyakit ini dibawa oleh nyamuk Aedes albopictus dan Aedes aegypti yang terdapat di negara kita.

• Melakukan kajian Aedes
• Semburan kabus dan ULV

Story Of Meaningful Life

 

 

A long long time ago, there was an Emperor who told his horseman   that if he could ride on his horse and cover as much land area as he likes, then the Emperor would give him the area of land he has covered.  
Sure enough, the horseman quickly jumped onto his horse and rode as fast as possible to cover as much land area as he could.  He kept on riding and riding, whipping the horse  to go as fast as possible. When he was hungry or tired, he did not stop because he wanted to cover as much area as possible.   Came to a point when he had covered a substantial area and he was exhausted   and was   dying. Then he asked himself,  "Why did I push myself so hard to cover so muchland area? Now I am dying   and I only need avery small area to bury   myself."

 

The above story is similar with the journey of our Life. We push very hard everyday to make more   money, to gain power and   recognition. We neglect our health , time with our family   and to appreciate the surrounding beauty and the hobbies we love..  
One day when we look back, we will realize that we don't really need that much, but then we cannot turn back time   for what we have missed.
Life is not about making money, acquiring power or recognition . Life is definitely not about work!   Work is only necessary to keep us living so as to enjoy the beauty   and pleasures of life. Life is a balance of Work , Family and Personal time.. You have to decide how you want to balance your Life. Define your priorities, realize what you are able to compromise but always let some of your decisions be based on your instincts.  Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of Life, the whole aim of human existence.
So, take it easy, do what you want to do and appreciate nature. Life is fragile, Life is short. Do not take Life for granted. Live a balanced   lifestyle and enjoy Life!
